Information for Spring 2023 Commencement Coordinators

We hope everyone's semester is off to a great start and we look forward to seeing you at the spring commencement kick-off meeting in February. Meeting details are included below as a reminder.

In addition to our commencement coordinator meetings, we'll use this newsletter to keep you all informed of upcoming deadlines and other information related to commencement.

UI Commencement Team

The spring 2023 commencement kick-off meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 16 at 11:00 a.m. on Zoom.

Kyle Hughes and Jessica Corliss will be joining us to discuss opportunities for collaboration related to creating a cohesive commencement experience. A complete agenda will be shared in advance of this meeting.

RSVP Information

Open and Close Dates

The spring 2023 commencement RSVP portal will open in MyUI this Wednesday, Feb. 1 and will close Sunday, April 9 at 11:59 p.m.

On opening day, the commencement team will send an email to current session degree applicants that are eligible to attend commencement. Additional communications will follow. We will share a communications timeline at our first coordinators meeting.

How to RSVP

The RSVP process is an opt-in system. Only students who RSVP as "I plan to participate" by the deadline and attend the ceremony will have their names read and displayed during the ceremony broadcast.

The RSVP portal is located in MyUI within the Degrees/Graduation tile by clicking on commencement attendance. The student will receive a confirmation email to their uiowa.edu account once their RSVP has been finalized.

Information Request and Website Review

As a reminder, we encourage you to review the information for your college on the commencement website, including ceremony information and collegiate contact information.

We would also like to request the following information from you all by next Friday, Feb. 10. This information (minus the quintet question) will be shared with MarchingOrder (the company that produces name cards for ceremonies), as well as the commencement photographers from Flash Photography. Please send your completed information to ui-commencement@uiowa.edu.

Subscription List for Friends and Family

We encourage friends and family to sign up for the spring 2023 commencement subscription list to receive updates regarding commencement this spring.

Faculty Regalia Deadline

You will be receiving information regarding faculty regalia from the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore during the first week of February. The deadline for renting or purchasing faculty regalia will be Thursday, March 23, 2023.
