SDS Summary tab added to MAUI in ICON

Instructors are able to view student accommodation requests on their ICON course site.

Students registered with Student Disability Services (SDS) with active Letters of Accommodation will appear in the new SDS Summary tab within the MAUI in ICON application (part of the navigation menu on your ICON course site). The SDS Summary tab will allow instructors to:

  • View the Letters of Accommodation(s) (LOAs)
  • Sort by accommodations
  • Email specific students or groups of students, as appropriate
  • Receive summary email notifications when there are new LOAs for the course (primary instructors only)

The new feature will save instructors time by automatically tracking requests, providing a centralized location to view all the letters of accommodation(s) for a class, and allowing them to send bulk emails to students with the same accommodations (while protecting student confidentiality).

The SDS Summary tab will be available within the MAUI in ICON application for all courses in the upcoming Summer 2023 and Fall 2023 semesters.

If you have questions about this new tool or student accommodations in general, please visit SDS’s FAQ page or email sds-info@uiowa.edu.

Student and Instructor Rights and Responsibilities

Students have several rights and responsibilities as they work with Student Disability Services and their instructors. With the SDS Summary Tab and MAUI in ICON feature, students are responsible for sharing their Letter of Accommodation with their instructors and communicating with those instructors. Instructors are responsible for responding to emails they receive regarding student accommodation requests in a timely manner and for engaging in the interactive process with students upon receiving Letters of Accommodation(s)

Student rights and responsibilities are listed on the SDS website and are shared with each student when they complete an initial meeting with their Access Consultant.

Instructor rights and responsibilities are also listed on the SDS website. We recommend all instructors are aware of these when providing accommodations. For tips on responding to LOA requests and ways to save time with accommodations visit SDS’s webpage on information for instructors.
