This message is intended for Academic Departmental Administrators, DEOs and Collegiate Admin.
The Office of the Registrar has begun preparation of Spring 2021 Course Offerings. Spring 2021 will function similarly to Fall 2020 with 50 or more optimum enrollment offered virtually/online, and 49 and below offering in a combination of as face-to-face, hybrid, and virtual/online instruction. We will continue to operate on a reduced seating capacity across all instructional spaces on campus. Decisions and discussions are ongoing, but at this time we can report the Spring 2021 session will begin Monday, January 25, 2021 and will conclude on the original published date of Friday, May 7, 2021. Final Exam Week will continue as planned.
These changes will necessitate updates to spring 2021 sections that are already in Approved status. The process for how these changes will be made is being reviewed and will be revised for spring 2021 with additional information sent to departments as soon as is possible.
To prepare, Academic Departmental Administrators should:
- Review course optimum enrollment counts. On the anticipated date of Friday, September 18, all courses with an optimum enrollment of 50 students or more will be programmatically moved to World Wide Web location. If your course is at or near the 50 figure, please consider making adjustments, if this automatic modification is not desired. The Course Enrollment Trend Report can be ran for several like-semesters to determine the projected enrollment.
- Begin reviewing Spring 2021 Offerings of all sizes.
- How will they be delivered? (face-to-face, web, or hybrid)
- Will there be a student rotation in the classroom?
- Will they require a University Classroom? If so, please prioritize sections as High, Medium, or Low Categories (based upon need for face-to-face location).
In the coming weeks, please keep an eye out for additional messaging which will include details, instructions, and resources. If you have any questions, please contact registrar-room-res@uiowa.edu.
