A Good Year for ACM...

UIowaCS and ACM@UIOWA hosted speakers from UIowa Tippie, Capitol One, Dwolla, and UC SD at this year's "Finance and Technology" University of Iowa Computing Conference.

Give during #1DayForIowa to support 2025-26 ACM@UIOWA events, inc. UICC '26, as well as tech talks, resume workshops, academic and career planning, programming practice, and more!

... and WiCS

WiCS@UIOWA held meetings ranging from guest speakers to game nights to social events!

Women in Computing Sciences encourages young women to pursue technology-related fields and build a community of technical women through community outreach, professional development, and peer networking. Your #1DayForIowa support will help further their mission!

Congrats to our students Phuong Nguyen (Informatics PhD), Delaney Norris (HCI Informatics MS), Nahid Zeinali* (Health Informatics PhD), and Liao Zhu (CS | Math BS) for being recognized during the UIowa Dare to Discover '25 campaign!

* Zeinali was also a Spring 2025 Ballard and Seashore Dissertation Fellow and a Graduate Research Excellence awardee.

Showcasing Faculty News

Naimul Hoque and Tasfia Mashiat joined our faculty in Spring '25 as Assistant Professor and Assistant Professor of Instruction, respectively. This semester, their courses center on HCI, ethics in AI, and database systems.

Research and other accolades

2024 NSF FMitF PI Meeting

The event brought together 70 Current PIs, 41 Aspiring PIs, NSF representatives, and a dozen local organizers and support staff/PhD students from UIowaCS and its CLC research group.

The NSF Formal Methods in the Field (FMitF) program unites researchers specializing in formal methods with experts from various domains of computer science, information science, and engineering.

Student highlights

• Josh Sobel was awarded a Graduate College Post-Comprehensive Research Fellowship for Spring 2025.
• Yafan Huang was a finalist for best student paper at SC24.

On the innovative and entrepreneurial side of campus life:

• At ISU Swan Hacks our students earned: 2^nd and 3^rd place for Quizly, A New Way to Gamify Studying and SpreadSim to simulate disease spread.
• CS Major Ishan Dhanani joined JPEC Refiller Me startup to combat plastic waste.
