This message is intended for all Academic Departmental Administrators, DEOs, Collegiate Admin, and Instructors teaching Summer 2020 courses on campus.
ACTION REQUIRED FOR 8-WEEK, 6-WEEK II SUMMER SUBSESSIONS
Following the Friday, May 1 announcement that the 8-week and 6-week II subsessions will be held in online-only instruction, the Office of the Registrar reminds collegiate and departmental leadership that many of the summer courses published to MyUI for the 8-week and 6-week II subsessions reflect the original modality of in-person classroom experiences. Because students are actively registering for Fall 2020, decisions for Summer 2020 offerings should be made expeditiously to position the students with up-to-date information for their decision making. Therefore, we ask colleges/departments to review their offerings and make adjustments as soon as possible. In the case of section cancellations, please consider any impacts to course sequencing or pre-reqs for Fall 2020.
Course Offerings
All approved course offerings will remain in MAUI as listed. Departments must review their summer 4-week, 6-week I, 6-week II, 8-week and 12-week section offerings for the new online-only directive to determine instructional feasibility.
Off-cycle courses. All sections offered as online-only.
If a section is cancelled, departments should follow a similar process created for Spring 2020 COVID-19 on the Course Cancellation Best Practices web page. We encourage any department cancelling a section to follow these steps, but most importantly, to quickly notify any enrolled students quickly so that alternate decisions can be made.
If a section remains, departments should submit a revised workflow slip to the Office of the Registrar to modify their time/locations information to reflect their plan for student participation. This process will release the classroom/instructional space & building currently listed in MAUI/MyUI. For more information, see the Office of the Registrar COVID-19 instructions.
- (Synchronous plan) – Departments enter the class time/day of the group interactive meeting and location World Wide Web.
- If classroom/instructional space is required for live, synchronous group meeting events or lecture recordings, please contact the appropriate building scheduler to track classroom usage as done for Spring 2020 COVID-19 course offerings.
- (Asynchronous plan) – Departments enter class time as ARR and location as World Wide Web. This instruction occurs outside specific time constraints.
Departments are reminded that the Registration Information field is a good way to convey any supplemental information to their enrolled and prospective students. We strongly encourage departments to provide students with as much information as possible so they can make informed decisions.
Final Examinations
Due to the 6-week II and 8-week summer sessions being offered exclusively online, we will only be scheduling date/time assignments for any course that requests a final exam assignment for these sessions. If a University Classroom (UCR) was requested in the exam needs tool, it will not be assigned.
Final Exam Schedule Publication. The Summer 2020 final exam schedule will be published to campus on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.
