Order Course Materials for Fall 2023

Some departments utilize administrative staff to collect and place textbook orders for instructors. Others ask instructors to place their own orders. Those decisions continue to be made by the department.

Please note: If you or a departmental administrator placed textbook or resource orders within the past few days, you may disregard this message. With many orders being placed at once, it may take several days for them to be entered and reflected accordingly in MAUI. Contact Jonathan Sevilla, co-manager of the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore, with any questions or concerns.

You are receiving the following email as textbooks and/or resources have not been submitted for the following fall 2023 course(s) and you are listed as the primary instructor:

Departmental administrators received a similar message Wednesday, April 5.

Textbook Compliance

Fall Deadlines

The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost encourages instructors to place their course material orders by early registration with ICON Direct, the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore, or the ISBA Law Bookstore. These sources connect to MAUI and automatically display selected content to students.

All textbook and resource orders should be finalized in MAUI by Early Registration (Monday, April 10, 2023), but in no event later than four weeks prior to the start of the semester (Monday, July 24, 2023).

Textbook Compliance

The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) requires that book titles, ISBNs, and prices of required and recommended books and other materials for any course are included on the institution's electronic schedule of courses in time for student registration.

As a reminder, textbook orders are not replicated and thus require a new order to be placed each semester. Learn more about University of Iowa textbook compliance and policy.

How to Order

Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore

Follett Discover, which the Iowa Hawk Shop utilizes for textbook and resource orders, is the preferred method for departmental administrators and instructors to adopt books for their courses. If you choose not to use the Discover site, please email 2253txt@follett.com with as much book information (course information, title, author, and ISBN of book(s)) as possible.

Follett Discover Guides

ICON Direct

ICON Direct is the University of Iowa's initiative for the ordering of required digital content. Please do not duplicate orders between ICON Direct and the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore.
