No Textbooks or Resources Reported for Summer 2023

Reminder to Order Summer 2024 Textbooks and Resources

The following email is being sent to all primary instructors and course supervisors. Some departments utilize administrative staff to collect and place textbook orders for instructors. Others ask instructors to place their own orders. Those decisions continue to be made by the department.

The university continues to work with our partners at the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore to improve the process for ordering course materials. Please see updates for ordering using Follett Discover below.

The following summer 2024 course(s) do not have textbooks and/or resources present in MAUI. All textbook and resource orders should be finalized in MAUI by Early Registration (Monday, Mar. 4, 2024), but in no event later than four weeks prior to the start of the semester (Monday, Apr. 16, 2024).

You are receiving this email because the following summer 2024 course(s) do not have textbooks and/or resources present in MAUI:

Order Processing

Please note: The list of courses above is automatically pulled from the MAUI data warehouse. With many orders being placed at once, it may take several days for them to be entered and reflected accordingly in MAUI. If you have placed an order recently, your new adoption may not yet be reflected.

Contact Helen Hansen, a course materials manager at the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore, with any questions or concerns.

Updates for Ordering with Follett Discover

Please be aware of the following updates regarding the ordering process through Follett Discover.

  • If you remove a physical book from your order, the e-book still remains. Please use the bookstore instruction field in Follett Discover to ask that the e-book also be removed.
  • If you are making changes to your selection(s), please contact Helen Hansen because changes in selections will change the status of your order and it will no longer be marked as complete. In many cases, this may temporarily remove adoptions from MAUI and cause you to appear non-compliant.
  • The bookstore instructions and student instructions fields in Follett Discover are available for you to add additional information to share with Follett as you are placing orders.
  • As a reminder, for continuity of operations when Follett staff are away, they have asked that we use ubs-textbooks@uiowa.edu to contact them with all course materials questions.

Place an Order

The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost encourages instructors to place their course material orders by early registration with the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore, ICON Direct, or the ISBA Law Bookstore. These sources connect to MAUI and display selected content to students.

Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore (Follett Discover)

The Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore utilizes Follett Discover for textbook and resource orders. It is the preferred method for departmental administrators and instructors to adopt books for their courses.

If you choose not to use the Follett Discover site, please email ubs-textbooks@uiowa.edu with as much book information (course information, title, author, and ISBN of book(s)) as possible.

ICON Direct

ICON Direct is the University of Iowa's initiative for the ordering of required digital content. Please do not duplicate orders between ICON Direct and the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore.

Digital content includes electronic textbooks, publisher homework platforms, Top Hat student licenses, and Packback student licenses.
