The University of Iowa Department of History is pleased to announce a call for applications for the Alan B. Spitzer Scholarship.
This scholarship will award $2,500 in financial assistance to an undergraduate history student who demonstrates exceptional promise and dedication to the study of history.
Qualifications
- Junior standing.
- Minimum 3.25 GPA in the history major.
Application
Please submit the following materials to the History Department by email to historydept@uiowa.edu. Refer to “Spitzer Scholarship” in the subject line of the email:
- Resumé or curriculum vitae.
- A paper (minimum 5-page) written for a University of Iowa History class (does not need to include instructor comments). Please include your full name/student ID number at the top of the pages.
- A 500-word essay on why you chose to major in History, how the study of history has shaped your undergraduate experience, and how you expect your understanding of history to influence your path after graduation.
Application deadline: Monday, April 21, 12 noon.
As a condition of this award, we will ask the recipient to provide a handwritten and signed “Thank You” (if legible; typed if not legible) to the Spitzer Scholarship Donors for providing this scholarship, prior to the funds being disbursed.
