 | | | "I, Too" Screening Monday ️ | The League of Women Voters Johnson County will co-host a documentary screening of “I, Too” followed by a facilitated discussion as part of the Film Scene Community Collaboration Series on March 25, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. The LWVJC, LWVIA, and the Bertelsmann Foundation are partnering with Film Scene for this Midwest premier of I,Too. The screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion event exploring the impact of history and accountability in strengthening democracy.
Professor Ashley Howard will serve on the panel, along with Bea Hicks, League of Women Voters Johnson County Vice-President and Board Member. The discussion will be led by Laura Gray, Iowa City Community School District’s Executive Director of Diversity and Cultural Responsiveness.
This event is open to the public. Free-will donations are accepted but not expected from students. 😀

Aferdita Krasniqi, an Outreach and Recruitment Specialist at the Institute of International Education (IIE) in New York City, works on the Fulbright Scholar Program. She manages the Fulbright Scholar Alumni Ambassador Program, leads initiatives with Fulbright Scholar Liaisons in U.S. campuses, and serves as a Lead for Europe and Eurasia region. Before joining IIE in 2017, Aferdita's background included working as a Cultural Exchanges Advisor at the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo for 17 years. The U.S. government awarded her the Special Immigrant Visa for her exceptional work and contribution to strengthening U.S. and Kosovo's political, educational, and cultural relations. She has a B.A. in English Language and Literature, is a native speaker of Albanian, and speaks fluent Serbian.
Aferdita is passionate about building bridges between people; this year marks her 24th year of working with the Fulbright Program.

| | | Jewish Studies Undergraduate Certificate Launch | Join us in celebrating the launch of Iowa's new Jewish Studies Certificate Program!
Led by program co-directors, Professors Ari Ariel and Lisa Heineman and featuring remarks by members of the campus community and a discussion of Sephardic history, identity, and citizenship with Dr. Isaac Amon and Dr. Jesús Jambrina. A three-part series of events kick off this new undergraduate certificate program.
