Calling creative undergrads �� | The Department of History needs a new t-shirt! How can we best convey our love of history to the wider world?💕 All undergraduates are welcome to submit a design to histdept@uiowa.edu by Friday, March 22, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
- Winner receives bragging rights and a free t-shirt!
- Plan for a one-color design. All design elements must be original. No use of trademarked or copyrighted material.
- Submissions must be original (vector) art saved as .PDF, .AI, or .EPS with all text outlined.
- Entries will be evaluated by an internal panel of judges and will be reviewed for:
- Concept and originality of design
- Visibility from a reasonable distance
- Adherence to design and submission rules and guidelines
 | | Off-cycle classes might be for you! | 1) We have a few seats available in the off-cycle, one-credit course starting after spring break: HIST:1166, Rapid Response History: Israel and Palestine. This topical course meets Tuesdays, March 19 - April 30, 5 - 6:50 p.m., in SH140, and features an interdisciplinary lineup of speakers and range of topics:
- Palestine and Israel: An introduction
- Palestine
- Zionism, Diaspora, and Israel
- International Law
- Domestic Politics and Regional Diplomacy
- Arts and Culture
- Human Rights
2) Take a history tour this summer and earn three credits! HIST:3257:0EXW, Civil Rights and Racial Justice Tour meets May 13, 2024 - May 29, 2024. Please check the pre-requisites on MyUI. This course is an immersive course on Civil Rights sites in the South and explores the history of the modern Civil Rights movement. Class materials will be delivered through lectures, shared readings, tours, and discussion. | | Support the Department of History on ODFI | One Day for Iowa is Wednesday, March 27, 2024.  | | "I, Too" Screening and Panel | The League of Women Voters Johnson County will co-host a documentary screening of “I, Too” followed by a facilitated discussion as part of the Film Scene Community Collaboration Series on March 25, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. The LWVJC, LWVIA, and the Bertelsmann Foundation are partnering with Film Scene for this Midwest premier of I,Too. The screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion event exploring the impact of history and accountability in strengthening democracy.
History professor Ashley Howard will serve on the panel, along with Bea Hicks, League of Women Voters Johnson County Vice-President and Board Member. The discussion will be led by Laura Gray, Iowa City Community School District’s Executive Director of Diversity and Cultural Responsiveness.
This event is open to the public. Admission is free, although a ‘pay what you will’ donation is appreciated. A $10 contribution is suggested.
