Be sure to update your email with UICA so you’ll receive all your alumni communication. | | | Midwest Victorian Studies Association Conference | The Midwest Victorian Studies Association Conference is this weekend in Iowa City. Professor Elizabeth Yale will give the keynote lecture on Saturday, April 20. As a gesture of thanks for the History Department's support, the MVSA invites students to attend any sessions of interest, at no cost. The conference theme is Evolving Forms (program attached and the website here).
Budget constraints require that meals are limited to those who have registered individually for the conference, but students are invited to join for panels, carry conversations into coffee breaks, or attend the keynote lecture. Students should check in at the registration desk during the conference and make a nametag for themselves. MVSA prides itself on being a welcoming organization, and we would be delighted to have you join in a spirit of intellectual conversation and connection-building. | | | Tracing Chains event May 3 | Tracing Chains: Exploring the Global History of Human Trafficking
Join us to delve into the dark realities of human exploitation across the globe. From the underworld of sex trafficking to the forgotten use of indentured servitude in Guyana, and the relentless pursuit of profit through forced labor in cobalt mining, we aim to shed light on the historical injustices that continue to haunt our world today. Together, let us confront the past to forge a better future for all.
