Veterans Week 2019 Events

Fellow Hawkeye Veterans,

The University of Iowa Veterans Association, Military & Veteran Student Services and the Office of the Registrar invite you to join us to celebrate our Veterans the week of November 11, 2019. Each event is a recognition of the sacrifice each Veteran has made to serve our country and to help support the University of Iowa’s Veteran and Military-Connected communities.

Monday, November 11: we will recognize the significance of the day via a brief event at 11:00 am. Colonel David Pinter (Ret), a UI graduate of the class of 1990, will provide remarks, which will serve as the official beginning of Veteran’s week at the University of Iowa.

Tuesday, November 12: the movie Monuments Men will be screened in the Big Ten Theater at 5:00 pm. Monuments Men is an action drama focused on a World War II unit tasked by FDR to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves in Germany and return them to their rightful owners. One of the soldiers depicted in the film, George Stout, was a UI alumnus and will be honored as a Hawkeye Distinguished Veteran award winner on Thursday, November 14.

Thursday, November 14: the Hawkeye Distinguished Veteran Award ceremony will be held in the IMU ballroom at 5:00 pm. The award recognition was established in 2015 to honor exemplary members of the armed forces who have demonstrated outstanding service to both the United States and their communities. This is the fourth annual recognition.

Saturday, November 16: the annual Military/Veteran Appreciation football game will be played at Kinnick Stadium against the Minnesota Gophers. Discounted tickets are available here.

More information can be found on the new Veteran and Military Community at IOWA website.

Thank you for your service and Go Hawks!
