Veterans Week 2020

This week, the nation takes some time to consider our service members' experiences and give thanks for their sacrifices. We thank you, Veterans, for all of the time you've spent away from family and friends and challenges you've faced in the service of protecting our nation. Please join us as we honor you and your fellow servicepeople. 

The VA also has compiled national virtual events in honor of Veterans Day.  

Week of Veterans Day Events

• The UIVA has placed flags on the Pentacrest in honor of our Veterans. Each flag is dedicated to a Veteran and includes their information. If you are in Iowa City, stop by to look at the display any time this week. If you aren't in the area, you can see past flag displays on our website.  
• Each day, our website will feature a Hawkeye Veteran. You can find their profiles starting Monday, November 9^th at veterans.uiowa.edu and on our Facebook and Instagram.
• The #honorhawkeyevets campaign launches this week. Show support for the Hawkeye Veterans in your life by posting a picture of them (or yourself!!) with the hashtag #honorhawkeyevets during the week of November 9-13. We will feature your tags in our stories so everyone can honor our Hawkeye Veteran community.
• The Hawkeye Distinguished Veterans Award ceremony. Read about this year’s recipients and register to join the award ceremony on November 12^th from 5-5:30 p.m.

The Things They Carry

Join the UIVA November 19 - 26th for a virtual ruck march!

The annual ruck march is to recognize the 22 Veterans who take their lives each day and promote suicide prevention efforts.

Help us reach our goal of 500 miles.
