A Note from the Military and Veteran Student Services Program Director
|
It has been a semester full of challenges and opportunities. We have seen more students in the new MVSS lounge and computer lab this semester than we have ever had since MVSS begin in 2009. Students have been taking advantage of many opportunities to grow, learn, and better themselves. The Veteran Morning Meet-up took place on September 26th. It was a great opportunity to meet with Veteran friendly employers. The Chemistry Platoon is off to a great start, Dr. Daly is committed to the academic success of our students. Students have been involved with intermurals, student organizations, and a wide variety of social options offered on campus. I am proud of our Veteran students and what they have (and will) accomplish here at the University of Iowa!

Even with all of the challenges and changes of moving to the University Capitol Centre, we are seeing more students using the MVSS space. Students are spending more time in the space and visiting more often. Since August 15, 2019 there have been 580 student check-ins, which does not account for the students who were unable to check-in due to computer issues. When you compare this with August 15, 2018 to September 24, 2018 when there were only 172 student check-ins, it is obvious that we are seeing more MVSS students! This has been possible because of the inclusive and supportive environment that has been established.
